Alva’s Nudisiri 2010 inaugurated traditionally

Mangalore, October 29: Alva’s Nudisiri 2010, a 3-day national-level Kannada literary meet on the theme of Kannada manassu jeevana moulyagalu, was inaugurated traditionally by pouring milk over paddy corn on the premises of Vidhyagiri Sundari Ananda Alva on Oct 28, Friday.

A cultural procession featuring dolls and musical instruments escorted prominent Kannada litterateur Vaidehi, the president of the event, to the dais. Various farming activities such as harvesting paddy, pounding paddy, and separating husk from the rice were demonstrated to the audience.

The event was inaugurated by renowned poet Dr. H. Venkatesh. In his inaugural speech, he said that Kannada has a human soul, which its dance, music, sculptures, and literature clearly illustrates. Speaking in appreciation of the creativity of the Kannada people, he said that they excavated mountains and constructed temples resembling crowns atop mountains. The present generation is enjoying the achievements of its ancestors, he added.

Delivering the presidential address, Vaidehi said that development should have certain limits, adding that no development should be done at the cost of others. Owing to development, people feel that it is ok to ignore problems of farmers such as Gregory Patrao, she said and urged people to place limits on their desires for development.

M. Mohan Alva felicitated Vaidehi with flowers, a shawl, and fruits.

A performance by Badagatittu and Tenkutittu Yakshagana teams formed part of the inaugural ceremony.
