Moodbidri: ‘Alva’s Nudisiri - 2010’ Gets a Grand Beginning

Moodbidri, Oct 29: ‘Alva’s Nudisiri – 2010’, a national cultural extravaganza being organized to bring to the fore the richness of the culture of Karnataka and its language, Kannada, and which promises to provide a feast to the eyes and brains of the participants for three days from today, was inaugurated on Friday October 29. Renowned litterateur, Dr H S Venkatesha Murty, gave the programmes a momentum, by lighting the lamp set up at ‘Ratnakara Varni Dais’ today morning.













































The dignitaries poured milk on the ear of paddy corn presented in ‘Kalasa (wooden measuring vessel)’ that was placed on the dais. The audiences were treated to a demonstration of farming activities like culling of paddy by hitting sheaves of hay against a wooden bench by farmers, deriving rice by pounding paddy, and then separating husk from the rice by using a fan-like instrument made of cane.

Performances by Badagutittu and Tenkutittu Yakshagana teams thoroughly entertained the audience.

An insight into Tulu culture was provided to the guests by presenting ‘Bhoota Kola’ on the dais.

President of the programme, Vaidehi, MLA, Abhayachandra Jain, former minister, Amarnath Shetty, Alvas Education Foundation chairman, Mohan Alva, and other dignitaries were present.
